Ready to camp without hookups? This checklist covers everything you need for successful boondocking - from solar power setup to water conservation and finding the best free camping spots.
Essential Boondocking Gear
Solar panels (100-400W depending on needs)
Solar charge controller
Deep cycle batteries (lithium or AGM)
Battery monitor
Portable generator (backup)
Extra fuel containers
Leveling blocks (uneven terrain)

Portable waste tank (tote)

Power Management
Calculate your daily power usage (amps/watts)
Position RV for maximum solar exposure
Monitor battery levels throughout the day

Limit use of microwave, hair dryer, AC
Charge devices during peak solar hours
Keep battery bank above 50% (lead acid) or 20% (lithium)
Water Conservation
Know your fresh water tank capacity
Take Navy showers (wet, soap, rinse)
Use biodegradable soap for outdoor washing
Collect gray water for flushing (if legal)
Use paper plates to reduce dish washing
Fill up at dump stations before heading out
Bring extra water jugs for drinking
Plan for 2-3 gallons per person per day
Waste Management
Use RV-safe toilet paper
Add extra tank treatment in hot weather
Keep black tank valve closed until 2/3 full
Know nearest dump station location
